Stocks were off to a mixed start Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average building on the previous session’s record close and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite remaining under pressure. The Dow was up 29 points, or 0.1%, neat 34,259, while the S&P 500 edged 0.1% lower to 4,162. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.5% near 13,519. Ahead of the opening bell, data showed first-time jobless claims fell last week, totaling less than 500,000 for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
