Major stock-market benchmarks eked out small gains Wednesday as investors appeared to await a May report on the labor market due at the end of the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose around 26 points, or 0.1%, to finish near 34,601, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 ticked up around 6 points, or 0.1%, to close near 4,208. The Nasdaq Composite rose around 20 points, or 0.1%, ending near 13,756.
