The Popeyes fried chicken chain announced plans to open more than 200 new locations in the U.S. and Canada this year. That would follow the 208 restaurant launches in 2021, the company said, and grow the more than 3,000 locations Popeyes already has. Popeyes reopened its New Orleans flagship in March, and will open a location in New York’s Times Square this year. The brand will also expand in international markets like the U.K., China Mexico and Saudi Arabia. And it will enter new markets including Romania, India, France and South Korea. More than half of the planned restaurants will have double drive-through service. The new locations will also incorporate new technologies and store formats. Popeyes is part of the Restaurant Brands International Inc. portfolio. Restaurant Brands shares are down 9.7% over the last year.
