Imax Corp. said Monday it took in $25 million in box office receipts at the weekend from the global opening of Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic Park: Dominion.” The company said that included $12.3 million in North American box office receipts and $6.3 million in China, marking its biggest opening of a Hollywood film in China since May of 2021, despite continued capacity restrictions in that market. It was the company’s third straight global opening of more than $25 million. Imax is expecting that streak to continue with upcoming summer films such as Disney/Pixar’s “Lightyear” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” on the slate. Imax shares were down 2.9% premarket and have fallen 9% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has fallen 18%.
