The Dow Jones Industrial Average is on track to finish Monday’s session in its first bear market in more than two years. Dow industrials were down by more than 200 points, or 0.8%, at 29,342 in the final hour of trading. A close at or below 29,439.72 would mark a pullback of at least 20% from the Dow’s Jan. 4 record finish, meeting widely used criteria for entering a bear market. The last time the Dow was in a bear market was between March 11 and March 26 of 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 traded just above its June lows on Monday, off by 0.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite was slightly lower.
