Sr. Systems Engineer

 My client is a leading provider of education solutions. They provide their solutions to banks to accelerate product releases by making technology implementations predictable.   


They are growing, profitable, and looking for a Sr. Systems Engineer to join their growing team in Ann Arbor, Michigan.



  • Design, execute, and monitor our WAN software as it grows and runs in multiple colocation centers
  • Play an active/hands-on role in the deployment activity in all environments (development, staging, internal, and production)
  • Assist in the design and execution of distributed data center operations
  • Work with development team leads to optimize parts of the application stack
  • Perform regular patches and upgrades to servers and service software
  • Create and/or modify shell scripts to provide automation, diagnostics or logging
  • Modify load balancing configurations
  • Work with network engineers to resolve network issues, optimize network settings and provide continued fault tolerance
  • Assist in the evaluation and make recommendations for future hardware purchases
  • Update and maintain deployment environment documentation
  • Lead the discussion with architects, engineers, management and external teams to identify and resolve production problems


Required Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Computer Technology or equivalent work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Knowledge of application tools such as Java, PHP, Tomcat, .NET, MySQL, SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Windows, Networking, CVS, ANT, XML, and script programming a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of networking devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, etc
  • Understanding of network design
  • Application platform setup and configuration
  • Operating system setup and configuration
  • Application testing and identification of bottle necks
  • Server/Application monitoring
  • Upgrades of OS, Application Servers, and Libraries
  • Security and disaster recovery preparedness
  • Network design
  • Network performance and redundancy
  • Detailed understanding of load balancing
  • Create or update high level network diagrams including circuits, physical maps and logical topology
  • Comprehensive understanding of the following technology architectures: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, LAN, WAN, Load Balancing, and IPSEC VPN
  • Responsible for budget input with regard to hardware and data center operations
