Sr. Systems Administrator, Operations

My client is a global law firm with 20 offices in the world’s major commercial centers. They are growing and looking to hire a Sr. Senior Systems Administrator, to provide overall direction, technical expertise and guidance in support of production servers, storage and Disaster Recovery environments. The position requires extensive knowledge in the design, implementation and ongoing management and troubleshooting of global production infrastructure.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for developing platforms that maintain high availability & performance of the environments.
  • Works closely with engineers to design, test, debug and configure complex Windows based operating system components, software tools, server hardware and utilities as required for the operation and ongoing maintenance of the global server and storage footprint. Establishes timely root cause for operational events. Assists with designing the governance, assurance and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise technology architecture compliance.
  • Performs administrative tasks to update and modify server and storage system configurations.  Maintains proper documentation and operations scheduling standards for OS and security patching of computer systems and software. 
  • Provides leadership in infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques including mass application movements into the cloud including implementation of Azure, Google or AWS within large enterprise environments.
  • Establishes compute and SAN expertise internally and externally to drive Cloud Adoption.
  • Responsible to lead the analysis of the environments to identify critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement which includes evaluating compute and associated storage architectures to optimize end user performance into their global applications.
  • Collaborates with Engineering, PMO, and Information Security teams to enable change in platform systems with the goal of achieving more capable and cost effective solutions.
  • Operates as the subject matter expert for new and emerging technologies to enable advanced compute (on premise and off premise) architectures.
  • Oversees critical technology implementations for cloud and third party connectivity solutions.
  • Responsible for developing budgets and hardware/software ordering specifications. 
  • Analyzes vendor costs and develops infrastructure ROI as appropriate in support of budget activities.
  • Develops and updates technical documentation, as built drawings, change control plans, instructions and procedures.  Maintains and updates the policies and procedures addressing server and storage configurations.  Leads change control discussions, and presents deployment details and ongoing server hardware roadmap plans.
  • Analyzes capacity requirements for server & storage infrastructure growth. Constructs backup and recovery methodologies ensuring the firm's data is backed up, protected and replicated.  Ensures the firm’s systems backup and restoration process across the 3 global data center regions is fully functional and consistently maintained according to best practices and high standards.
  • Creates Disaster Recovery backup testing schedules for server and storage systems coordinating with all GTS groups ensuring successful backup completions. Works with GTS teams to conduct monthly failover tests of systems using a constructed test plan.

 

 

Education & Experience

 

Required

  • Minimum of five years of design and implementation experience in IT, with a deep knowledge in: Cisco compute products & cloud infrastructure technologies and tools, CASB vendor, infrastructure as code modeling, advanced networking, SAN Engineering.
  • 4+ years' experience as an IT Infrastructure Architect, with focus on Azure, cloud, server, storage and networking.
  • 3+ years' experience with MS Server Operating Systems
  • 3+ years' experience with MS SQL, Sharepoint and .NET
  • Engineering and or computer science degree from an accredited institution.
